Medina Kabob 2780 Metro Plaza
Old Bridge Observer newspaper recently did a lengthy article about the 10th anniversary of Medina Kabob and their adjacent "lounge" called Majik Lounge, so I was curious to check it out. It is a Pakistani restaurant that tastes similar to Indian food - curry, yougurt, paprika, etc. I did their buffet but also ordered two regular items off of their menu. I have to say I was not overwhelmed with the meal but very satisfied. I did especially like their hummus which I ordered separately, it was very, very good. I also liked their spicy beef egg rolls. For the buffet I tried a beef dish (that was not named) which had a hint of curry in it and a chicken marsala. For being Pakistani, I felt it was too light on the spice, probably to cater to a more American palate. The food did seem very fresh and the basmati rice was perfectly done. I did not go to their adjacent Majik Lounge. It is a lounge that does not serve alcohol but does provide a centuries-old tradition in Pakistan and throughout the middle east --- a hookah bar. This is where you may smoke a fruity style tobacco through a glass water pipe. This is a very popular after dinner tradition that is quickly spreading to the west. The newspaper article says the bar tends to cater to younger people 18 and older.
