Over the years I've stopped into a Panera Bread but it was always for a latte or maybe a muffin. I never actually tried any of their breakfast foods, their sandwiches, salads or their panini's. So when the new Panera Bread opened at the corner of Old Bridge Road and PW Parkway, I thought I would give lunch a try.

When I first walked in, there were at least 10 people ahead of me in line and I thought, uh oh, this is going to take awhile. Well it didn't. The staff were especially efficient and their ordering and food pick-up system was also very good.

Panera's specialty of course is their bread which is baked daily on the premisis. They also have organic ingredients and antibiotic free chicken. I was torn between ordering one of their paninis and a regular sandwich on one of their speciality breads. I went with the Bacon Turkey Bravo sandwich with tomato basil bread and their specialty spread. Aside from the speciality spread being just slightly on the sweet side, I thought it was very good. The bread was downright fantastic. I really enjoyed it. They also provided their own label of potato chips that have 0 trans fat and were light and tasty.

I also love the added benefit of the free wireless access to the internet. So, for a quick or a long lazy lunch, I do recommend this Panera Bread in Merchants Plaza. I have been to the Panera on PW Parkway near I95 but I always found it more tedious to get in and out of the parking lot. That is not the case in Merchants Plaza.

Other treats available are daily soup specials, fruit smoothies and many different baked goods.
